Under general supervision of the Managing Defense Attorney, represents Community members facing a variety of criminal, juvenile, and traffic charges before the Tribal Court. This position is treated as an FLSA exempt position.1. Interviews clients and witnesses and performs legal research work to obtain information necessary to prepare an appropriate defense for assigned clients before the Tribal Court.2. Files motions and meets with the Community Prosecutor on pending cases.3 Prepares briefs, case files, and various other records to support the defense of the client and document case status/progress.4. Represents clients both adult and juvenile in criminal proceedings such as Bench Trials, Jury Trials and Adjudications.5. Performs other job-related duties that enhance and facilitate departmental operations.
Skills/Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college of law with a Juris Doctor degree and 2-3 years of Tribal Advocacy work experience, highly desirable. If not a member of the Arizona State Bar, must be willing to take and pass the Arizona State Bar within one year of employment with the community. Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position. Job Description

Under general supervision of the General Counsel or designee, represents the Community in civil matters and performs other legal tasks within the SRPMIC government. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.Tasks: 1. Under supervision of the supervising attorney, appears and represents the SRPMIC in civil matters before the SRPMIC Court, including the SRPMIC Appellate Court and in administrative proceedings and other similar settings. Prepares cases and advocates for the Community and its departments, divisions and enterprises. Advises clients, both orally and in writing, regarding case progress.2. Under supervision, conducts legal research and analysis, performs factual investigations and analysis, and prepares legal memoranda, pleadings and motions, as directed.3. Ensures that files are kept and maintained in a timely and professional manner.4. Maintains confidences with all clients, office staff and work related issues.5. Under supervision, assists in training and updating departments on statutory or case law changes.6. Assists in performing liaison duties between SRPMIC departments, enterprises and their associates regarding matters handled. 7. Attends and participates in legal education and training courses in order to gain proficiency in job related matters and legal issues in general. Skills/Requirements

Education & Experience: High school graduation or GED and either one year of experience working in tribal courts or at least two (2) years of experience working in tribal government. • Special Requirements: Must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training and education. Failure to successfully complete training may be a condition for termination and/or repayment of costs. Successful completion of any test established by the SRPMIC related to the practice of laws in the SRPMIC Court. Community Code requires that a Community Court Advocate be an enrolled member of SRPMIC.

Job Description

Under general supervision of the Community Manager and under general legal supervision of the Office of the General Counsel, provides supervision and guidance to the staff of the Salt River Legal Services Office (SRLSO). Provides legal services and representation to eligible clients. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.1. Maintains and oversees the operation of the Salt River Legal Services Office (SRLSO) in order to provide basic legal services to eligible clients. Develops the necessary administrative polices, procedures and forms for the SRLSO including intake, log sheets, interview questions and status reports.2. Provides legal services and representation to eligible clients of the SRLSO through tasks illustrated by, but not limited to, the following: interviewing clients, providing legal advice, conducting necessary research, drafting correspondence and preparing legal documents.3. Drafts and prepares legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs and appeals. Represents clients in tribal, state and federal forums whether in court, administrative hearings or other appropriate forums.4. Provides administrative supervision to Advocates and support staff. Ensures that legal supervision, guidance and training is given to legal Advocates and support staff. Assigns work activities and projects, monitors work flow plus reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures. Completes performance evaluations and approves leave requests and “time and labor” for assigned staff. 5. Prepares the proposed annual budget for the SRLSO and monitors expenditures. Prepares and submits quarterly and annual reports.6. Develops and participates in Community legal education projects.7. Promotes the existence of a team environment and facilitates positive motivation. Encourages staff growth and professional development with an emphasis on Community Member development and promotion. Encourages staff participation in on-going training and professional development and strengthening of individual skill levels. Coaches, motivates and mentors employees to perform their best.7. Manages the day-to-day administrative operations of the department and coordinates internal operations with appropriate Tribal Government Administration staff to insure administrative goals and planning objectives are met. Coordinates department operations with the Court and other relevant departments and agencies to meet overall objectives in accordance with Tribal strategic planning.8. Performs other job related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operations.
